[SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

I am having real trouble installing the official catalyst drivers. I followed both these guides with noavail. http://www.neuraladvance.com/installing … linux.html and http://www.ramblgyrl.com/2014/11/instal … rch-linux/.

When I finish installing it just holds at the end of the boot cycle with no error I can only TTY into the system. Im not really sure what outputs you require but ill post a lspci.

Re: [SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

First try installing it with our wiki guide. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AM … the_driver

Re: [SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

Those instructions leave out many details which the wiki don't.

The best thing is to go to the wiki (which Alfie_89 rightly suggests) and setup the catalyst-hook package.

Also, you might not have to use the nomodeset option in GRUB to get the best performance with AMD Catalyst. I don't use the flag because I actually get better performance without it and AMD Catalyst

Also, you'd typically use the aticonfig --initial to get a preliminary configuration running, and any other options should be used as required (unlike the suggestion to use the --dual-head flag in the second article).

Re: [SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

Hi

I had identical problem and reading through ATI Bar and Grill forum thread brought me to conclusion that the problem mainly exists with Gnome. So if it is the case for you too then install package from AUR called catalyst-fix-gdm.
I am a noob, I know nothing, just sharing what have worked for me.

Re: [SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

Thanks for the help, but I tried to install the catalyst-hook stack (but stupidily install the pxp stuff, stupid i know) and tried catalyst-fix-gdm to no avail, and I kinda broke my system and I got really frustrated as I had networkmanager enabled and couldn't access the internet.

Anyway I'm now running a fresh install and i am going to start again. Anyway, is there any special recomendations for notebook running on processor graphics in conjunction with an external card. as you can se when I run

lspci | grep ati

00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] BeaverCreek [Radeon HD 6620G]
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Whistler [Radeon HD 6630M/6650M/6750M/7670M/7690M] (rev ff)
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

I'm going to try again, this time only installing the catalyst-hook stack, should i install all the packages recomended or only some. i.e. I am running on a 64bit machine/os.

  1. catalyst-hook

  2. catalyst-utils

  3. catalyst-libgl

  4. opencl-catalyst - optional, needed for OpenCL support

  5. lib32-catalyst-utils - optional, needed for 32-bit OpenGL support on 64-bit systems

  6. lib32-catalyst-libgl - optional, needed for 32-bit OpenGL support on 64-bit systems

  7. lib32-opencl-catalyst - optional, needed for 32-bit OpenCL support on 64-bit systems

One more thing, what is the best method to uninstall the packages.
Thank you in advance

Re: [SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

Ooh, Dual AMD cards... I have no idea what to do in that case. I asked if anyone in the AMD Bar/Grill could help in this post.

Re: [SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

So I've been playing around. I have found other forum posts referring to my problem ( [link] https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=141130 [/link] ). I tried to install the drivers form the zip directly from the ATI website. I recieved this log file from the installer:

Supported adapter detected.
Detected a previous installation, /usr/share/ati/amd-uninstall.sh
Dryrun uninstall succeeded continuing with installation.

Re: [SOLVED] ATI Driver Catalyst installation problems.

So I've finally installed catalyst. What I needed to do is install the catalyst-total package from AUR, also GET RID OF GDM, that seemed to be the major problem, even after installing the gdm-fix it still didnt work. currently using lightDM which seems to be fine.
