wrong virtual terminal on "halt" from within KDE

When I shutdown manually from within KDE (e.g. "su -c halt"), X gets killed and I get returned to vc1, BUT all the shutdown text goes to vc7.
Can anyone tell me why, and - especially - how to get more reasonable behaviour? (I mean of course apart from shutting down normally using KDM or whatever - say I don't have *dm running.)

Re: wrong virtual terminal on "halt" from within KDE

I've found a solution - 'chvt' from the 'kbd' package.

   chvt 1 ; halt

(done as root) and the shutdown works properly.
