[SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

hi
so here is my situation, i get NO sound on my laptop speakers when i boot up my computer. however i have sound from the headphone if the headphone jack is connected/ or if it's not connected, i will get sound from the headphones when i connected it. then i will get sound back on my laptop speakers when i disconnect the headphone jack!!!
so basically every time i need to get sound from my speakers after boot up and login, the way is to connect my headphone disconnect it.

Re: [SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

that's going to be either an install related issue or your actual hardware is fucked because from my understanding of the garbled sentence is that you plug in your headphones you get laptop speaker sound an headphone sound when connected .....check your hardware make sure there is nothing grounding anything out ( ie screw wire etc ) an if that's no the case then check with alsa ( if you have alsa-utils installed ) type alsamixer set your default then google a search on how to set default audio within arch linux smile hope that helps

no i don't get laptop sound while having my headphone jack connected.
this is surely a software issue not hardware and i'll tell you why. this is my everyday routine when i turn on the laptop:
1- i have no sound on the speaker. i have no headphone jack connected. when i turn the volume up and down i still have no sound.
2- i connect the headphone jack, i get sound from the headphones. when i turn the volume up and down, the volume in the headphone goes up and down
3- when i disconnected the headphone, i then get my sound back on my laptop speakers.

so if i don't connect my headphone, or if i'm somewhere with my laptop that i don't have a headphone, i can't get my sound out of my laptop speakers.
it's like the system doesn't know anything about sound before the headphone jack is connected....

Re: [SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

Happens to me also,same thing.
I noticed it is after I forgot to unplug headphones before shutdown.
I have fixed it once with resetting pulse, but now I don't wan to do this as I have struggled to make setup without noise on skype.
So :
-when I turn laptop on  there is no sound on speakers, until I  connect and disconnect headphone,  just green jack. Headphone works ok if plugged in.

@choolz :   I can do same thing with alsamixer, just go there and make speaker 100% volume, for some reason  it stays at 0% until I do as described.

Otherwise, sound works with no issues...

Re: [SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

Fire up your favorite alsa control tool.  If you use alsamixer, change the current "Card" to your actual hardware (it might start up talking to "Pulseaudio")  Once you see the controls for the actual hardware, look for the "Auto-Mute" option.  Turn that off.

Re: [SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

I have automute option disabled.
Correct me if I am wrong, but even if automute is enabled, it still should enable speakers if no jack?
I want to say, this problem feels like sound card thinks jack is plugged in, for some reason.
Like said, only thing that helped me was to reset pulseaudio.
Since I don't want that now, need to just plug in / plug out jack, or to raise volume in alsamixer.
Not a big issue, but it would be nice if it is not here smile

Re: [SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

I am not sure.  On my system, the insertion or removal of the audio jack generated a hardware interrupt that the driver responded to by changing its multiplexer controls.  In addition to that, Pulseaudio also seemed to notice that the jack state had changed and it also changed the controls.  With two things toggling the settings, the outcome was somewhat non-deterministic.   Maybe your hardware and driver are different;;  try turing it on and see if that helps.  Also, play with some of the other PIN settings -  it might take some experimenting to find the right combination.

Re: [SOLVED] Audio Jack plug problem!

Thanks, I will when I get time.
Right now, I am happy to have skype without noise in mic, as this was killing me.
Another strange thing is that this happens when I forget to unplug headphones and turn off laptop.
After that speakers stay on level 0
I tried to turn on laptop with headphones plugged in, but on  next restart speakers are level 0 again.
What to do...
Will try to play with settings.

hey that almost was the key to solve my problem

so i opened up "pulseaudio volume control" then i went on "output device" tab.
there are three options:
1. Speakers
2. analog output
3. headphones (unpluged)

so for some reason the OS had the analog output as its main audio. and when i connected the headphone jack and disconnected, it was going back to speakers.
all i did was to select the speakers. and it's working now.
thank you all for your help
