Hello.
This may be more of a general hardware issue, but I am posting this here because it may be a problem with Arch.
So anyway I am using a computer with a G41MT-S2PT motherboard and an Audigy Fx soundcard. I bought the sound card because the sound on my motherboard stopped working. It worked fine for a few months, however sometimes when I booted up the computer the sound would not be working. This was always fixed on a reboot.
Recently I was trying to get the audio input to work so I could use my mic in Guns of Icarus Online. It did not work at all, it would only give me static sometimes. I had also confirmed the headphones did work on another computer, and the mic in was definetly unmuted in the mixer. I practically tried all possible mixer combinations, none worked. Then I looked through troubleshooting on the wiki, and found that there is a section on only getting static through the mic. I followed that, and that's when my sound stopped working. I set the config file (/etc/pulse/daemon.conf) back to what it had been before, but this did not seem to fix it.
To check if it was just Arch, I booted up my old Windows XP. It also was not able to play sound, and also BSoDed me. After testing on Arch and Windows, my network somehow stopped working only on Arch. This was also very odd, as I didnt touch anything network related at all, unless somehow booting Windows broke something.
My dad says this is probably a problem with the mobo. Is it possible that the mobo is breaking or did I just majorly screw something up?

sounds to me hardware issue best advice do a full reinstall of arch an windows ( making sure to back up arch home folder an windows docs music etc ) an then reinstall both OS then when installing arch do pacman -S os-prober before you install the grub-install /dev/sdx command an that should sort it if not then your motherboard is going out ( but it can be fixed with a simple repair ) ( ie unsolder the jack an resolder a new one ) or take the mobo out an look for burn marks desolder points etc if there are an the board is older then moses get a new one ![]()
