Root log-in in Sddm( Plasma 5).

Hello everyone.
I can't figure out how to login as root from sddm( default login manager for Plasma 5 ). I have only one general purpose user in my laptop and that account shows up fine on boot  but root does not show up anywhere on the sddm, and I also cant type root and type my psswd to login like I use to do back then with gdm. I'm currently switching to CLI every time I want to login as root.
Please help. thank you

Hi sapnesh,
you can try to edit the file /etc/sddm.conf (take a look here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SD … he_greeter)
and change the value of MinimumUid to

MinimumUid=0

Re: Root log-in in Sddm( Plasma 5).

I tried that too, setting MinimumUid=0 makes root  to show up in sddm but along with it a whole bunch of other logins like network manager. systemd, and a lot others also show up in the sddm screen( may be because their uid lies above 0 ). Navigating to root or my general purpose user in such clutter is very annoying.

I think that is the only solution since sddm developers will likely never support root login: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=2 … 02#p328070

Re: Root log-in in Sddm( Plasma 5).

Can I somehow specify only the uid 0 to show up on boot in /etc/sddm.conf?. That may work.

Why do you want to log in as root in the first place? You *really* shouldn't do this.

Pretty silly that you necrobumped an unrelated nine year old thread as well.

Don't.
