NAS crashs after migrating to an USB-Stick

Hi,

recently I upgraded my NAS and moved the installation to an USB-stick. Also the NAS now serves as a mediacenter, because its close to the TV.
I migrated by copying all system files to the new system and generating a new initrd and bootloader.
Since this migration the system now freezes (30min-3d time between crashes). The video freezes and it becomes unresponsive over network. I also cannot switch ttys.
The logs (journalctl -e -b-1) show nothing that might be related to the issue, often the last entry is several hours old. I suspect that there is some kind of kernel fault but I dont know how I could debug this.
The changes from the old (stable) system to the new one are: new hardware (cpu&mb), installation on USB-stick and a software update (I update every two weeks).

Do you know what might cause this trouble and how I could fix it?

best regards,
