Reduce root lvm partition

I tried to reduce my home partition before, from 65GB to 1GB. I did that without unmounting home partition. So, so I failed to reboot and enter emergency mode. In emergency mode, I formatted again my home partition and change fstab manually, fortunately that's work. But now, I need to reduce root partition. I know, if I do that the same way I did for home partition, the system will completely broken. So, is there anyway to reduce root lvm partition?

Do it from the LiveCD. Mount everything and do the changes from the LiveCD.

Resize the actual filesystem and then the Logical Volume to fit. Just make sure to leave a little bit of extra space, so you don't delete anything when shrinking and then have to grow everything again.
