The installation medium (dd bs=4M if=/path/to/archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdx && sync >to a usb stick) keeps on restarting the machine when I choose to use UEFI mode. I get to the loader screen (maybe it's gummiboot) but after I select the UEFI CD option (the first default option) it restarts..
Motherboard: GIGABYTE z97-HD3
Intel Z97 chipset.
Any ideas?

Have you enabled EFI booting from your firmware (BIOS) options?
Some systems need the "CSM" or "Legacy" mode explicitly disabled.

Thank you for your response.
UEFI booting is enabled... I checked the bios, but furthermore I think the "Arch x64 UEFI install CD" option in the bootloader is only visible when booting in UEFI mode...

This issue was caused by one of the hard-disks having a srst error -16 (aka failing hard-disk). When I removed this disk the installer worked and the uefi installation went successful.
Not sure if this should be considered a bug. I tested the ubuntu uefi installer as a comparision and it omitted the failing disk from the partition editor, which is cleaner than looping in my opinion.
