Random freeze with kernel > 3.17.8

Hi everybody, I have an 8 years old pc with a striker extreme Asus board (nvidia 680i chipset), intel quad core 2.66 and 8 gb of ram that I use like a network server and sometimes like a desktop.
After upgrading to 3.18 kernel I got random lockup of this pc with no clue in the log files. The pc simply freeze, sometimes with the HDD led on, sometimes not.
All is locked also ping and ssh are not working. This happen only with kernel 3.18 or 3.19. I get an average of 3 lockup a week, sometimes it even lockup only few minutes after the login screen appear.
This is with arch stock and also with my custom build. Actually I'm on custom build 3.17.8 and all is fine, no more lockup.
Some suggestions?  I read somewhere that kernel 3.18 onward had a lockup issue still unsolved and I don't know if this could be related.
I also read that compiling with CONFIG_PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY instead of CONFIG_PREEMPT could resolve the issue.
I can't go to 3.14 LTS because I formatted with XFS v5 and this format is still experimental with the 3.14 kernel series.

Thanks,
berny
