Hi all,
I have a number of machines running arch, and on each use checkupdates to keep track of how many updates are pending.
On one machine (a VPS), checkupdates gives never gives any output. Performing an -Syu at the same time will identify packages that require updating. I have tried changing the DB path to no avail.
I haven't come across this issue on any of the other machines and am not sure what to try to fix it.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions!
Thanks,

checkupdates is a simple shell script. You can more or less run the steps manually. Remember to run the commands without redirecting output to /dev/null so that you can catch any errors. ![]()
Btw, is that machine using grsec?

Thanks - I'm an idiot, I didn't have fakeroot installed on the VPS. All working as it should now.
For what it's worth, I'm not using grsec.
Thanks for your help.

I guess most people will have fakeroot or the whole of base-devel installed anyway, but should fakeroot not be listed as at least an optional dependency for pacman?

It used to be. It was removed recently. I don't know why. https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … 598121cdcd
