So I setup lxqt with openbox and set nm-applet to autostart when openbox starts using the autostart script:
set -b
nm-applet &
and I can see network monitor in the panel widgets list but it never gets added to the panel when I use the gui to configure the panel. Same behavoir with cpu-monitor but I may be missing a package necessary for it.

Have you added a systray to the panel items?
I think the nm-applet icon is supposed to sit in the systray.

Yup, I have battery monitor & pasystray in it. Yet when I try to add cpu or network monitor nothing happens. Even though I used nmcli and networkmanager is holding my connection just fine as I type this.

Does it start in a terminal? Is it running already but hidden?
pgrep nm-applet

Would it just be nm-applet in top if it was already running? I don't see it nor does pgrep nm-applet produce any output. It would seem I might have something stopping it when I try to start it or it fails to start...

See: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … xqt-panel/ You're missing a package.
An ignorant man is one who doesn't know what I just found out.
