[Solved] Steam does not Launch

Hey everybody,

I made a fresh install of Arch on my spare HP desktop yeterday so I'm not tied to my Thinkpad all the time. I've been having this particular problem with Steam: I installed it with all the neccesary drivers (using an Nvidia GeForce GT 620 OEM, nothing special) but it isn't the age-old issue with LibGL errors (I will remove those libraries later). The problem is that when I run it, it simply doesn't launch. I ran it through a terminal to see what was going on and it was stuck on this operation:

tolbiac ~ → steam
Setting up Steam content in /home/tolbiac/.local/share/Steam
Running Steam on arch 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(0_client)

I left it there for four hours, came back and it was still stuck on this. [Screen] I'm not sure if its trying to fetch something from the Steam servers and they're just down, or if there is something I'm missing. Either way I'm clueless and am wondering if anyone has a fix for this. I can easily just use steam on my Windows machine, but its always nice to play some stuff on Arch.

Specs:

- HP Pavilion a6330f
- AMD Athlon 64 x2 Processor
- 4GB RAM
- 320GB HDD
- Nvidia GeForce GT 620 Graphics Card
- Arch Linux x86_64
- i3wm

And as a side note: I updated the mesa drivers today (Feb 21), just in case that would be a factor.

Thanks everyone!

Re: [Solved] Steam does not Launch

Hey there,

I ran into this same issue today. I had the lib32-nvidia-340xx-utils-340.76-1 lib installed.

When I installed the lib32-nvidia-libgl and replaced the 340 one, steam ran with no problem after.

Below is a page where they list the different libs for each vendor.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xorg#Installation

Hope this helps!

Hey, I am currently using the lib32-nvidia drivers and the nouveau drivers, I tried the reverse of your suggestion but that didn't work either. Hmm.

EDIT:

Welp, I apparently magically fixed it by replacing the lib32-nvidia-libgl driver with the lib32-mesa-libgl drivers and running a script I wrote to delete the generating ubuntu dependancies. I pretty much just ran steam and kept running that script on the side and it went through.

Thanks everyone for the guidance. Should have tried this earlier.

I'm in the same boat. Could you reupload that script? Or put it between CODE tags? (Your link is broken)
