Ok, so I'm trying to work through the Wiki and this http://www.archlinux.org/blog/2006/01/0 … rade-xorg/
but when I try to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, it just opens a blank file. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I've been really confused and struggling with the documentation for this upgrade.

Don't really know what to suggest, except make sure you are root when trying to edit it.
How did you create your xorg.conf file, by running "xorg -configure", or did you run "xorgconfig"?

When I try xorg -configure it says "bash: xorg: command not found" so but xorgconfig seems to work.

AFAIK you should type this with big X: Xorg -configure
[root@Komp_607 ~]# hwd -x
Generating /etc/X11/xorg.conf.hwd
Your sample file is ready.
hwd -x is supposedly better then xorgconfig

The capital is important:
Xorg -configure
hwd also works well:
hwd -x
I would suggest NOT using xorgconfig though. I don't like it.

Thanks, Hwd seems to have done it.

oops, sorry for any confusion caused by me leaving the X as lowercase in my question above.
