I get this error when using the latest version of nvidia: http://ix.io/gGu
I was able to resolve it by downgrading nvidia, nvidia-utils, nvidia-libgl, and mesa, all of which were updated during the prior successful boot.
What's going on here? How can I get back onto the latest versions of these packages?
Update: more details. Packaging error?

maybe you have module nvidia in mkinitcpio.conf?
updating nvidia only you may have a old module in your initramfs...

There was a bug https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/43969 , but I don't think it would result in such a situation.

I resolved this by waiting a while and then running a system update. Thanks for the help, folks.
