403 Forbidden Error on directory but not on index page.

I can't seem to find the source of the 403 Forbidden error. Index page works as expected but accessing the owncoud directory throws this error. Configs below.

# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/access_log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log", whereas "/logs/access_log"
# will be interpreted as '/logs/access_log'.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
# Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used. If you wish to share the
# same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
# least PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"

#
# Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
# for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
#
# Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
# mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
# other reason.
#
# Mutex default:/run/httpd

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80

Certainly

owncloud.conf

<IfModule mod_alias.c>
    Alias /owncloud /usr/share/webapps/owncloud/
</IfModule>

<Directory /srv/http/owncloud/>
    Options FollowSymlinks
    AllowOverride all
    Require all granted
    php_admin_value open_basedir "/srv/http/:/home/:/tmp/:/usr/share/pear/:/srv/http/owncloud/:/etc/webapps/owncloud"
</Directory>

#<VirtualHost *:80>
#    ServerAdmin foo@foofarm.com
#    DocumentRoot /usr/share/webapps/owncloud
#    ServerName owncloud.foo.com
#    ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/owncloud.foo.info-error_log

Re: 403 Forbidden Error on directory but not on index page.

sorry I should have asked this in the last post, is there anything in the error logs?

edit: also, from the wiki, did you

chown -R http:http /usr/share/webapps/owncloud/

as it advises? I think not doing so would cause this error.

/var/log/httpd/owncloud-error.log

192.168.1.1 - - [06/Mar/2015:17:52:53 -0800] "GET /owncloud/ HTTP/1.1" 403 1002

$ ls -al /usr/share/webapps/

drwxr-xr-x   5 root root 4096 Mar  6 17:12 .
drwxr-xr-x 165 root root 4096 Mar  6 21:22 ..
drwxr-xr-x   4 http http 4096 Mar  6 17:49 owncloud
drwxr-xr-x  10 root root 4096 Mar  5 02:11 phpMyAdmin
drwxr-xr-x   6 root root 4096 Sep 18 09:08 php-xcache

Also keep in mind that I've installed owncloud using the source downloaded from the website. I previously installed using the pacman, but wanted to configure it to be under a sub directory and not as my web root.

Re: 403 Forbidden Error on directory but not on index page.

I can't put my finger on the issue yet, but installing with pacman is probably the better route. The wiki I linked to has pretty simple instructions for configuring it under a subdirectory. Or am I missing something, is what the wiki has directions for different from what you are trying to achieve?

Re: 403 Forbidden Error on directory but not on index page.

Ok I've deleted the source directory and reinstalled owncloud from the official repository. I've symlinked the owncloud folder into the root webserver so that it should appear at localhost/owncloud. 403 error still persists. Should I try to configure the directory using the virtual hosts somehow?

Re: 403 Forbidden Error on directory but not on index page.

Isn't this a permissions issue? I think it needs to be chmodded to 660 for permission across the files to be accessed.

edit: looks like 755 or 644

"The 403 Forbidden error means that your file has bad permissions. Directories and folders must be 755. Executable scripts within the cgi-bin folder must be 755. Images, media, and text files like HTML should be 755 or 644."

Re: 403 Forbidden Error on directory but not on index page.

The permissions should be okay, though /srv/http/owncloud is 775, which I don't think you want.

johan1391, hopefully you're still around. If you haven't fixed the problem, I think I know what it is.

<IfModule mod_alias.c>
    Alias /owncloud /usr/share/webapps/owncloud/
</IfModule>

You didn't change this alias in owncloud.conf. Try changing it to the correct directory and see if that fixes it.

Edit: I'm a little confused now since you last gave us ls of /usr/share/webapps... You're using /srv/http/owncloud, aren't you? So you have to either change the alias, or add /usr/share/webapps/owncloud back to the open_basedir
