Hello,
I use xfce power manager to manage the acpi events on my laptop. When I close the lid, it suspends, and when I open back the lid the screen goes on but the bottom of the screen flickers and the mouse pointer runs slower. I noticed it gets fixed if I change the screen resolution. So I can sort of fix this thing by changing the screen resolution and come back to the previous one, but this is annoying. What do you think could be the problem? I also noticed that if I simply use "systemctl suspend", and then come back on (without playing with the lid), this flickering won't happen. It happens on suspend on lid down/up controlled by xfce-power-manager.
Thanks a lot for your help

What are your laptop's specifications? Did you check the journal for information? Have you tried suspending without xfce4-power-manager? (by removing upower and xfce4-power-manager)

Have you tried the advice in this XFCE wiki article?

Should no longer be needed with recent versions:

Hello,
I have not replied in a while because I've been busy, but I also tested different stuff to try to understand this issue. So far, it seems to happen erratically. I uninstalled xfce4-power-manager and disabled the uPower service so now I use systemd's own suspend function (which is temporary because it doesn't consider battery usage). When I close the lid, then open it up later, four things can happen:
- Everything comes back normally.
- Sometimes Xorg has disconnected, it then restarts automatically (I do not use a login manager, xinit is configured to start on startup).
- The display comes back but there is a flickering at the bottom of the screen, and the mouse cursor is somewhat slower, some bugs maybe with the refresh rate or something... like I said I can resolve this by switching the screen resolution to something else and then come back.
- Sometimes, NetworkManager doesn't connect automaticly. I have to type "systemctl restart NetworkManager" to restart it.
Also, sometimes both NetworkManager and the screen flickinering issue happen at the same time.
I haven't found a logic for what happens when.
Looking through "dmesg", I found this:
