Hello, I wanted to kick off this thread, because I'm very interested in getting the UX305 to run Arch Linux.
I'd like to start by saying I really, really appreciate any time you spend into answering, because I was really looking forward to getting Arch running on this laptop, but then spectacularly failed. Long story short, the first big warning sign was that turning off Secure Boot in the BIOS made the hard drive disappear as a boot option from the BIOS, and made it not show up in lsblk when in the live USB. You can find my somewhat hilarious overall failure documented in this reddit thread. As you'll see if you read through, there was partly the issue that I had perhaps made a mistake when originally formatting, but that doesn't answer the point that before even formatting, the first time I turned off secure boot, the drive did not show in the live USB nor BIOS. There are people talking about similar things, but not exactly the same issues, and not arch, in here and here.
But, as per this reddit thread, and this wiki page, it looks like people have had success. Yet, despite one comment in that reddit thread mentioning something vague about UEFI issues, I have not found much discussion about the actual process of getting Arch booted.
I was hoping someone who has successfully installed Arch could comment, describing how it was for them to get started. I would ask things like:
1) Did turning off secure boot do anything funky? Did you try any other combination of BIOS setting modifications?
2) You had to boot using UEFI right?
3) Did you use a live USB to install? how did you go about preparing it? Just good old dd?
4) Did you boot up Windows before installing?
5) Did you have any issues with things not showing up in the BIOS?
6) Any other input is greatly appreciated

Update: I got /u/mgrieger to respond, and he gave some good further details about his success in dual-booting Arch and Windows, and what he had to do. Just hoping this helps anyone else.

Hiya,
Just spent the weekend installing Arch on my Asus UX305FA-FC095H. Everything went pretty much just how things were instructed in the Beginners Guide.
1) Didn't do anything funky. Just disabled Secure Boot and Fast Boot and changed the boot order so I could boot from the Live USB.
2) Yes, with UEFI.
3) Live USB, used the easiest method I could find for making the Live USB in Windows enviroment - Rufus - as described in "USB flash installation media" article.
4) Yep - nuked it during the Arch Installation (Made USB-recovery drive first, just in case.)
5) No issues
6) After couple of times failing with the installation due to my own inexperience, found it good to install the Gummiboot bootloader (Lasts steps in the beginner's guide) right after going through the packstrap and chroot steps.. Bootloader and the proper formatting of the boot-partition for UEFI were causing me the only major bumbs on my road to my Arch Linux UX305.

Hey, thanks so much for responding! I actually ended up getting a different laptop, but I'm sure someone else will come across this in the future like you did, and appreciate it ^_^
