[SOLVED] KDE5/Plasma hangs on splash screen

Hi,
This started happening couple days ago on my laptop. While I can successfully log into other DE, I can't seem to get past the splash screen on Plasma providing the login information.
The progress bar stops anywhere between half and three quarters of the way and then just sits there. I can switch to a VT and restart SDDM any number of times but I still get stuck there no matter how long I leave it sitting there.
I can log into LXDE and other sessions, and even into KDE4 if I uninstall Plasma and install KDE4, without any issues. The issue is isolated to Plasma session.
I am not sure where to look. I don't see any errors and I am not sure where all to look.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Update:
After reading https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=124492, I removed all plasma and kde related files and folders from $HOME/.config and logged in again and that let me log in again.

Delete any *.lock files you find in ~/.config and ~/.cache

Thanks @arojas
I gave your recommendation a try by restoring the previous plasma and kde files from ~/.config (I had taken a backup) and removing all *.lock files.
I am able to log into my previous session now.
