kde freeze with latest nvidia-legacy drivers

I am experiencing a very strange issue, i can start KDE and i can use almost all the application except Konqueror as an internet browser (but it works fine as a file manager) and the Control Center otherwise everything freeze (except the mouse cursor) and i cannot switch to console or shutdown X. The only thing i can do is to keep pressed the power button to shut down my laptop.
Now i'm using the generic NV driver and everything is working properly. Does anyone know if it's because of the latest build of nvidia-legacy or something other??

P.S. If i run lspci it says:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go]

I've looked at the cards supported by the last nvidia drivers and they say that's supported but if i try to use nvidia instead of nvidia-legacy X doesn't start and the system freeze, i just have a blinking cursor on the upper left black screen.
