Assign old ubuntu's home as archlinux home after installing arch

Hi.
Today i install arch and i make my partitions: Root, Swap, Home.
During installation i think i forgot to mount my home partition.
Now i have archlinux without home partition.
I want to assign old ubuntu's home partiton to archlinux home, because i don't have ubuntu and i don't need that!
So, please tell me how can i assign that partition as home.
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks.

Well just mount it? It's not like it's gonna break anything (it's not suppose to). Archlinux doesn't need a /home partition to work, so basically you can just mount your old ubuntu /home and start deleting unneeded dotfiles, Ubuntu specific folders, etc until you clean it properly. That is unless you want to keep that data for some reason. If you're asking what are you suppose to type in fstab, we're not going to spoon feed you on that matter. There's a wonderful wiki, full with all sorts of helpful tips regarding that, also a section for migration.

Thanks smirky. So you say i don't need a home partition for arch? What about downloading files? I use cron for downloading. And maybe in download progress, the arch partition come full.
I need a partition for arch that my downloaded files go there.
Sorry for my english!

Re: Assign old ubuntu's home as archlinux home after installing arch

What smirky said is largely true; you can just mount it at /home.  You should add it to the /etc/fstab to make it happen automatically.

Any problems you encounter can be fixed.
It is possible that, even though you  might use the same user names on Arch that you had used on Ubuntu,   the user number and group number schemes might not be consistent.  In other words, if you had a user hdartworks on Ubuntu, the arbitrary number associated with that user could be different than the arbitrary number that was picked when you created hdartworks on Arch.   For arguments sake, lets pretend the user number on Ubuntu was 501, and on Arch it is 1000.  If you mount your home partition on /home, you would not see the user hdartworks as the owner of the files.  You would see user number 501.  It would show 501 as your installation does not have a name assocaited with that number.  It gets worse if your installation does have a name associated with that number.   In that case, it will show that name.  The point being, you may have to go in as root and change the ownership of all the files in /home.

Second, if there are any configurations in 'dot' files that had been used by Ubuntu, it is possible (likely) that those configurations might not be correct for Arch.  Perhaps they would identify the location of a lock file or a spool file that is not in the same location on Arch as it was on Ubuntu.  You will just have to catch them as they bite you and fix them.
