I encountered this problem with the KDE screensaver not starting when time is up and if anyone else has had this problem I discovered a solution with much googling. Edit your ~./kde/share/config/kdesktoprc file. In the screensaver section add a line "DPMS-dependent=false" (no quotes). Never had a KDE screensaver problem before. Must be a 3.5 thing. This fix worked for me.

Sorry about the typo. It should be edit ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc if you hadn't already figured it out.

good! a few weeks ago (after the upgrade from 3.5.0 to 3.5.1? or xorg upgrade?), i noticed that the screensaver (black screen) in KDE didn't start . My solution was desactivating it :-P as i don't usually make use of it.
I'll try what you say.
Bye!
EDIT: Yes, it worked
