custom kernel, compatible pkgs ?

I have this doubt:

I didnt build a customized kernel before in Arch, mainly because i was waiting for 2.6, but i wanted to change some stuff to 2.4, and when the .23 was released i decided to give it a shot.

The thing is this, can i still use pacman to install kernel dependant pkgs, as lm_sensors, i2c and alsa-driver for example? or should i recompile them using the pkgbuild?

Thats it, thanks in advance.

Re: custom kernel, compatible pkgs ?

for me all you listed work nice for 2.4.23 (just used pacman to be uptodate and no problems came up)

(but there are some that need to be compiled for the kernel you run on: e.g. thinkpad (in my TUR) has modules, that must be compiled on the kernel you use them: thinkpad 4.8.0 is for kernel 2.4.23 and thinkpad 4.3.0 was for kernel 2.4.21/2)

Re: custom kernel, compatible pkgs ?

After I made changes to 2.4.23, I had to recompile the four alsa packages (driver, lib, oss, utils) using abs. I tried a pacman update, but it didn't work.

My lm-sensors and i2c weren't affected

Re: custom kernel, compatible pkgs ?

You should only have to recompile alsa-driver, not the other ones.  It's on the kernel drivers that aren't compatible.

Re: custom kernel, compatible pkgs ?

Ok, as the three post differ in opinion, i will try the easy one first, i will download the updated pkgs with pacman (not right now, but soon) and see what happens, if that doesnt work, i will recompile alsa-drivers only, and if that doesnt work i will recompile the four of them.

Thanks for the input  lol
