Thinkpad L540 stops charging after a few minutes after updating Arch

I have a pretty odd problem and I hope some of you may help.

I went abroad in late December with my Thinkpad L540, I lost my charger there, and I bought a new one through Amazon. Since I had a newer and shinier laptop during my time outside the country, I didn't use my Thinkpad at all.

When I came back, I realized that the new charger had a problem with static, and the trackpad was wonky when the computer was connected; otherwise it worked perfectly. Since I hadn't updated Arch in almost 4 months and I had used the same installation for years, I decided to start again and format the computer.

Now to the weird part. After installing the usual packages, and using the same charger, I don't have the problem with the static anymore and the trackpad works fine when the charger is connected. Instead, I have a more serious problem: after an arbitrary amount of time which is usually about a minute but it's been shorter and longer, the laptop just stops charging and starts discharging. It starts charging again if I remove the cable and re-insert it, but goe sback to discharging after some time.

I know this seems like it's a problem with the connector, but I'm pretty sure it isn't for a few reasons. I had times when the laptop stopped charging after 10 minutes of total inactivity and nobody touching it, and this also didn't happen at all with the old installation despite using the same cable, adapter, and electric plug as before. For the second reason I suspect the problem is either that I need to install a new package, or that some updated package made the power work worse.

I don't know much about power in Linux, so I'm pretty lost on where to continue.
