Touchpad only working on login screen.

When I boot my notebook, it goes directly to the login screen; the touchpad works normally there. But when I log in and get to the Gnome Desktop, it stops working. In the gnome 'mouse and touchpad options' there is not option about the touchpad, only an option to select the main click button and one for the scroll speed. What can I do to enable the touchpad? I tried the command "synclient TouchPadOff=0", but it makes no difference. Thanks.

Edit: "synclient -l" shows "TouchpadOff" = 2. Don't know what it means. If I keep setting it 0, it eventually turn into 0, but still does not make any difference.

Re: Touchpad only working on login screen.

Are you using Wayland?

GNOME on Wayland didn't have synaptic support in version 3.14 and used libinput as a fallback with unsatisfactory results.

I don't use GNOME in Arch now so apologies if this no longer applies with version 3.16

Re: Touchpad only working on login screen.

**  EDIT **  I just had a huge brain fart.  roll  Have you tried adjusting the "FingerLow" and "FingerHigh" options?  Maybe its not picking up touches correctly.

I had the same happen to me after my recent re-install.  Installing the xf86-input-synaptics package fixed it.

Apologies if you already have it installed.

Re: Touchpad only working on login screen.

Hi, I'm having this issue as well. I'm using MATE as desktop. I just installed cinnamon and the touchpad is working. I don't know if there's a config setting to disable the touchpad.

Re: Touchpad only working on login screen.

Sorry for the late reply. After some time, I did a fresh reinstall and it's now working properly. Maybe it got messed in some way during installation. Thank you, anyway.
