I've used Arch Linux for 6 months I think, and I've never had this problem before.
The problem has occured two times, and it doesn't happen often at all, but it still is VERY annoying if it does happen.
Well f.ex for 20 minutes ago, it happened for the 2nd time. The system hanged. I can't say if it's X, but when it crashed I was doing an assignment in openoffice. All of the sudden I couldn't click at anything, the mouse cursor didn't change "look" when I dragged it over something, I simply couldn't click at anything. Keyboard didn't work either, couldn't type anything.. I tried to kill X, but ctrl+alt+backspace didn't work or ctrl+alt+f1 and so on. Some of the weird parts of the crash is that torsmo was still active. It switched between 0 and 1% cpu, ram usage I believe it was around 180mb. Also the music from MPD was still playing nicely in the background. Both my mice and keyboard are USB, so I suspected that somehow the USB stuff had become weird, but I tried to connect PS/2 keyboard and mice without any luck. Also I noticed that numlock, nothing happened when I pushed on the numlock button, the LED just kept on being there on both keyboards.
Well this probably sounds complicated/weird/whatever, but I hope you have any ideas. I didn't find anything noticeable in dmesg.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an x-server crash.
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch. ![]()

I got the same. Not sure if it is the composite Extension. Dont know if it was deactivate or not.
All 2 days i get a hang like yours.
Every 6 hours i get a more weird one with funny colors on the screen (i think this is really composite related).
MPD was running and the clock on the lower right corner was still working.
Sound and other things work too when i get those colors.
Try to deactivate composite and renderaccel.
What i dont understand is, how can the screen be drawn when x crashed?

RenderAccel is on, however composite is deactivated since it doesn't work with GLX. But I'm gonna try disabling RenderAccel.
I hope it works, thanks ![]()
