Hello arch community,
I just installed Arch a week ago. I have a problem with an unstable and slow wifi connection.
Just now the Wifi didn't work at all (Even though I was connected and had an okay signal strength), and I had to reboot the Laptop. Often the Internet is very slow for short periods of time (especially bothersome when streaming), occasionally the Connection aborts fully. It seems that the connection times out for short periods of time and then works fine again after ~30 s.
iwconfig-output:
wlp3s0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"XXXXXXXXX"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
Bit Rate=90 Mb/s Tx-Power=16 dBm
Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=47/70 Signal level=-63 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:78 Invalid misc:483 Missed beacon:0
rate is set to auto, enabling "rts" and "frag" didn't change a thing
I'm using a Lenovo IdeaPad U310.
Any Idea is welcome. If you need additional information, just say and I will provide.
best regards

Try using some of the /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf tricks detailed in this thread (step 2):
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? … 6&p=576226
The "options iwlwifi swcrypto=1" is probably the one most likely to help.
You can check which configuration options are available (and the default settings) by using:
# modinfo iwlwifi

No answers yet, but looking for more information.
Which wireless chipset are you using?
What are you using to manage the connection? (wicd, netctl, NetworkManager)
What network related things have you enabled? Check with systemctl. Ensure that only one thing is trying to control the hardware. You may want to just post the output of systemctl
What make and model is your router/access point? Have you tried a different access point?

I added the option "iwlwifi swcrypto=1" to the iwlfwifi.conf. And started expermienting a bit with other values.
The connection is still much slower than it should be (with windows it works fine, so it is no hardware issue). I can't say if there is an improvement in stability yet.
My wireless chipset is the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (rev c4). I use NetworkManager to manage connections.
systemctl outputs three lines that refer to either the pci-adress of the wifi-card or the name of the wifi-device (wlp3s0)

I didn't try another access point yet. The router is a FRITZ!Box 6340 Cable.

Thanks for the help so far.
I still fail to find a pattern in the instabilities. Sometimes the connection is really good, sometimes there is no connection at all. And everything in between.
Yesterday I couldn't connect to my router, it looked like I have a connection, but I couldn't ping the router. Only a reboot could help. I use "iwlwifi swcrypto=1" now. But no other options.
Is there a possibility to log the activities of the driver software? And can I log the state of my connection?
regards
Balooga

The Problem somehow solved itself. I have no Idea why.
Thank you for the support!

How did you solve it? I'm having the same problem.
