I'm running arch and cinnamon (kernel 3.19, because the XPS 13 has some trouble with kernel 4.0) on a Dell XPS 13. It has a touchscreen and a touchpad. I've created a "touchscreen" virtual pointer using xinput and I attached the touchscreen to it. I now have two cursors, one for the touchpad and one for the touchscreen.
The weird thing is, when I touch the screen, the second cursor moves to where I touch, but a click occurs at the location of the first cursor. I have no idea how to fix this.
In case it helps, I'll note that the second cursor flickers incessantly, and that it changes shape according to what the first cursor is hovering over. There's definitely something fishy going on here.

If nobody knows what the problem is, does anyone at least know where to start looking?

If it uses Xorg, I would take a close look at the Xorg logs. See what it says about inputs.

Thanks. After further investigation, it appears that it actually has something to do with google chrome & chromium. (I failed to notice this for a while because chrome is the only gui app I use; everything else I do in the terminal.) It seems that other applications successfully treat the touchscreen taps as clicks, but chrome and chromium do not. Surprising. Does this help anyone diagnose the potential problem?
