So I just bought this new Canon printer and wanted to make sure it will work with Arch before I open the box. Perhaps I should have done some more research before buying, but my last Canon Pixma printer worked perfectly using Cups under Arch...
Looking at the support for openprinting (openprinting.org) I dont see this model listed at all: www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/Canon. Maybe this is since its a newer printer its not there yet?
This link shows the Linux support/driver but only links back to the download page with no driver to download http://loadriver.com/2015/01/canon-pixm … linux.html / http://driversupports.com/canon-pixma-m … -download/
In the AUR I see this: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/canon … 0-complete (canon-pixma-mg7100-complete 3.40-2). But this is the 7100 not the 7520 like what I have.
Now I did find 2 rpm files here: http://otopsd.com/canon-pixma-mg7520-drivers-download. One for the printer and one for the scanner. Maybe I can use these??
So any suggestions as far as trying to get this printer to work with Arch (without opening and testing first...Its easier to return if this is the case), otherwise I will return it if its not going to be compatible.
Thanks

Sweet...So maybe it will work and is just a newer printer. I guess I will also be a tester if I do. Maybe I will open the box and give it a whirl...

Great News!! I was able to get this printer working!! In fact once I installed the AUR package the printer was listed the first entry under CUPS so it was easy to add.
I then tried to get scanning working and finally manged to do that also! Installing 'sane' did not seem to work, however 'sane-git' did the trick. I think it has something to do with my printer is newer. I then installed a couple of sane front ends (Simple-scan did not seem to work and hung up) so I ended up with and like xsane so far.
Thanks for the suggestions quellen I will update the AUR also next.
