He tries to use the pppoe kernel mode.
Unfortunately, the pppoe module is buggy, it triggers à kernel memory fault, see here :
https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/18799
To workaround, use the user mode pppoe daemon. Install the package rp-pppoe from extra repository and don't use the netctl method.
I  stumbled about this bug 3 days ago.
