Sandfox and firefox sandbox

I have a question concerning the script "Sandfox". I would like to run firefox in a sandbox, i use:
1. 'Sudo sandfox firefox'
2. killall firefox
3. In new terminal 'sandfox firefox'

It all works fine and when I check if it is in a sandbox, it is. But I have some problems understandning how it work, i thought it worked like this:
1. I start firefox i a sandbox, it copy the necessary files from the real firefox and firefox starts in the sandbox.
2. All what I do in this sandbox will never affect the real firefox, because it is in a sandbox. But it does. When I install a plugin in the sandbox-firefox, it is also installed in the real firefox. Why that? I thought the whole idea was that a program running in the sandbox never would could affect something outside the sandbox?

I am really confused.

Frederik
