Very recently I have had a problem with GNOME's brightness control. When using the Fn keys (F11 and F12 in my case) the brightness will be slow to change, sometimes taking a few seconds to change. When adjusting brightness from the top bar it works alright, but the brightness indicator will jump around randomly. I am using GNOME 3.16.2.

Same thing is happening to me for the past year. At first I thought it was because of an external monitor, later on I switched to Fedora on the second laptop and the issue wasn't affecting me until the release of Fedora 22. I think I need to read changelogs of the current release to find out which package was updated to the same version as Arch Linux had a year ago.

I've the exact same problem. My suspicion is that it is a kernel problem. When I had kernel 3.x I had no problem. I'd say it is happening after the upgrade to kernel 4.x. The release of kernel 4.0 was in April this year. I'm not sure, but I think the problem started around April.

I forgot to say that I've a Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch. What is the brand/model of your notebook?

It was a kernel problem. I installed the linux-lts (kernel 3.14.x) kernel and the problem disappeared.
