Laptop freezing

My laptop is running arch linux 32 bits and occasionally (once at 3-4 days) becames completely unresponsive(no mouse, keybord works, time clock stops), i have to turn it off.
I cand ping and ssh to him from another pc when it is completely unresponsive.

This thing started  after i made an upgrade with pacman -Syu.

P.S. And I don't find anything on my logs at that moment.

Re: Laptop freezing

This really isn't a lot of information to go on.

Thing thing started  after i made an upgrade with pacman -Syu.

What was upgraded?

What are you doing when it freezes?

When it freezes, and you ssh in, is there any process using a lot of CPU cycles? Can you restart your display manager (if you have one) or terminate your X session?

Mod note: Moving to Newbie Corner.

Well I think it was upgraded all packages.

Today i had 2 freezes, I was editing something in my terminal( vim editor).

And I ssh in (once a couple of days ago) I only checked to see if i can do ssh, i don't know how to check the CPU cycles.
And i don't know what shorcuts to use to restart display manager( I'm on mate), but I know that i can killed with pkill -15 Xorg from another PC, I'll try next time.

Re: Laptop freezing

Well I think it was upgraded all packages.

I think that's unlikely, unless you haven't updated in a looooong time. Check your pacman.log, see what specifically was updated.

Can you also post the output of

uname -a

Re: Laptop freezing

Weird. I've never had any sort breakage like that specifically after an update. but you did jump from Linux 3.19.2-1 to 4.0.1-1. That's a big jump as far as I'm concerned. Oddly, try enabling the testing repos and updating again. More updates may actually sort you out.

Re: Laptop freezing

Maybe there is memory fault.
Start from ArchCd and choose memtest. Let it run 1-2 times in a row.
Also from ArchCd, chroot into your system and check the journal with -D option.

The kernel jump is fine, They only missed out 3.19.3. Please don't recommend that someone use testing. Testing is for packages that may break things, and should only be used by experienced Arch users who A) know what they're doing, B) are willing to file bug reports about the problems they encounter, and C) are capable of salvaging a system that has been broken as a result of using testing packages. Newbies should stay away from testing at all costs.

@tesla135: See if downgrading to 3.19.2-1 helps.

Presumably, if the keyboard can be seen to be working, the screen is uncorrupted and characters appear when typed.

Do you have time jumps in any of the logs? Have you reviewed Xorg.log for errors in the latest entries?

@alex.theoto memory tests passed.

@WorMzy thx, i'll think about it.

It would be my first downgrading...and I don't want to broke my system.

@ sabroad my mistake, no mouse, no keyboard, no clock are working.

Time jumps are when I reboot or shutdown and I don't find any Xorg.log, only Xorg.0.log(you mean this one?)
