Hey guys,
i've got some problem with my cd-rom device. I think since changing to udev, which happend some time ago, my cd-rom devices disappeared.
There is no mor /dev/hdc or /dev/cd* or anythink anymore.
I think it might have to do something with udev or initramfs or maybe the kernel configuration, but it stopped working from one to antoher day and i got no idea why.
If you got an idea, please write, i miss my dvd device
Bye

edit:
I just found that while browsing dmesg output, mybe this will help:

hdd: SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-408B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

I think the line "ide_cd: Unknown symbol blk_attempt_remerge" might be responsible for my missing devices

Well, if that's in your dmesg, I don't think it's the kernel's fault (it seems to detect both optical drives). I don't know much about udev though... Actually, I don't know much about the kernel either. Anyways, I'd look in the direction of udev. To be sure, you could perhaps check if they are present in /sys/block.

Nope, they are not

Which kernel are you using?

Aye, update your kernel, or if you use a custom one, use the patches in the announcements forum.

I'm using the latest Archck Kernel...

I don't know if it's related but I also had cdrom /dev disappeared after messing with mkinitrd. But it only affects boot procedure AFAIK.

try this: ls -l /dev |grep hdc and also for hdd and post the output.
