[SOLVED] Thinkpad X250 (Broadwell) screen flickering

I'm quite happy with my new X250. The major issues with the trackpoint and fn keys are fixed and everything works well.

Except for X.

At some point when not using X, the screen starts to flicker. Looks like it's out of sync on the horizontal axis. This can be fixed by going into standby and back.
When X is started I get this on the other terminals too but not in X. When I switch to a text terminal and then back to X it flickers for 1 or 2 sec and then gets back to normal.
