"Small problem".
With my regular account I have sound in Cinnamon and looking at the system settings I see the default, built-in, sound device enabled and working. Both in the Cinnamon and KDE (running the KDE systems app from Cinnamon) systems settings.
In KDE I have sound loggin in with root (just for testing).
But ... and most annoying ... I don't have sound with my regular account in KDE. The default built-in device is disabled ...
I've been googling for a couple of days but failed to find the solution.
EDIT: Also, I tried creating a new test account, and this too has the built-in sound device disabled.
Still looking for ideas. Anyone?

Check Pulseaudio related autostart .desktop files exist in the '/etc/xdg/autostart/' folder and disable them to see if problem still occurs

OK, looks like if I create a new account it will add 2 instances for the default built-in sound device. Disabling one of them makes it all work properly.
Why my original account had fubard sound is still unclear. If anyone has any ideas as to what might have happened to it ... Maybe something to do with an upgrade from KDE 4 to Plasma 5 kind of setup?
Else I'll just run with the new account. Haven't "dared" try the above as it migh mess with the new account.
