Does anyone know how to set Display Manager on tty2??

So I want Archlinux on the startup (tty1), but I also would like to have my Display Manger (GDM) to launch on tty2, the problem I am having is that startx needs to be in root to use, and startx hangs when I launch it, which only has "exec startxfce4". I would think that would be the way to get it to launch on tty2, but I'm not sure.  Is there anyway to do this or am I out of luck.

What?  This makes no sense.

1) Startx should not be run as root.
2) Do you want to use startx or a display manager?
3) Where are you running startx?
4) Do you want two gdm sessions?  Two xsessions which could come from a single gdm?  or something else all together?

Re: Does anyone know how to set Display Manager on tty2??

Okay the only reason I am using a display manger is because when I launch startx it hangs, with the display manager it doesn't, and I also have to run it with in root (maybe with sudo it'll work I'll try that now). which to me makes no sense, but I'm not complaining about that. I would rather just use startx with "exec startxfce4" then have GDM show up on start up.

edit: Okay I have no idea earlier today it was saying I need to be in root to activate startx (this was before I changed wheel to be in the sudo and su group) will edit again if it hangs, it just didn't say I need to be in root right now

Re: Does anyone know how to set Display Manager on tty2??

Now I'm more confused, but also perhaps more qualified to help: I don't know much about display managers except that I'd never want to use one.

What errors does xorg give when you try to run it as your normal user?  If you run it as root, does xfce start?  If it does, you must have edited /root/.xinitrc rather than your users ~/.xinitrc, so make to sure create/edit the latter.

Re: Does anyone know how to set Display Manager on tty2??

I made sure to edit the one in my users. but before it would load until it was just a black screen with a underscore(this was when I was in root, because my normal user didn't have the ability to use startx), now it is saying:

[  1361.529] (EE) xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (No such file or directory)

Also every site I go to has something along the lines of this

startx no longer works as a user. You can fix it but it is a possible security problem.
As root use init 5

Re: Does anyone know how to set Display Manager on tty2??

Every site you have gone to has apparently been the wrong site.  Use our wiki for up-to-date information that actually applies to archlinux.

The /dev/tty0 error is odd.  Please try the following commands from a tty logged in as a regular user, in sequence, and report back with the results:

loginctl

echo $XDG_VTNR

xinit -- vt$XDG_VTNR

I'm guessing it just has to deal with startx I must have changed a file I wasn't suppose too, or changed it wrong.
