Arch on crucial ssd toshiba satellite pro l500-1xc boot [fixed]

Okay I'm  trying  to make a decent  mobile arch.

I took my ssd from an old notebook which was my first arch system and put it in my i3 which previously  had arch on a 5400 drive working fine.

But for some reason it won't  boot I've  reinstalled the entire setup still  won't  boot. So i installed  windows 7 installs fine.

Reloaded arch again  and won't  boot it's  using syslinux

I really don't  have a clue what to try i loaded  up the bios update but it wouldn't  install so presuming it's  not that.

Any ideas ?

Thanks for your time.

What does "won't boot" mean?  Where/when does it fail?  How does it fail?  Do you need to use a efi boot nstall and/or would you need to disable that in the bios?  Did you use an efi install?  Presumably not as you said you used syslinux (I don't think syslinux supports efi).

Re: Arch on crucial ssd toshiba satellite pro l500-1xc boot [fixed]

It tried to read the drive and goes boot failed.

Then loops back to the boot options bios list i didn't  need efi with the other hdd so dunno why this one would  also don't  thing efi is a option  in the bios at all.

Only thing i can think of really  is that the fireware for the ssd isn't  up to  date ? If that is a thing not sure

If you have a non-EFI system on the SSD you will need to enable "CSM" or "Legacy" mode in your firmware (BIOS) options.

Thanks still no joy this is the laptop http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinued-p … -l500-1xc/ doesn't  have a legacy option sad

I installed grub and used GParted. This  time.

The install seems to be fine it's  just not booting

This is the boot error:

Is the system UEFI or not?

Was the system on the HDD you have removed UEFI or not?

Have you changed any of the firmware (BIOS) options (or have they been changed) since changing the drives?

Try disabling "AHCI" in the firmware options.
