Calibre cant open pdf's in external viewer

Whenever I try to open a PDF file through Calibre I am just getting an error message saying the following:

Failed to open URI "file:///home/{name}/Books/Calibre/Harold%20Abelson/Structure%20and%20Interpretation%20of%20Computer%20Programs%20(MIT%20Electrical%20Engineering%20and%20Computer%20Scie%20(260)/Structure%20and%20Interpretation%20of%20Computer%20P%20-%20Harold%20Abelson.pdf".


Error when getting information for file '/home/{name}/Books/Calibre/Harold%20Abelson/Structure%20and%20Interpretation%20of%20Computer%20Programs%20(MIT%20Electrical%20Engineering%20and%20Computer%20Scie%20(260)/Structure%20and%20Interpretation%20of%20Computer%20P%20-%20Harold%20Abelson.pdf': No such file or directory.

The book exists in the directory and I can use Evince to open it with the given URL above. 

I am using the XFCE Desktop and I cannot open it with xdg-open and I think that is the problem.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Not being able to open the books directly from Calibre is kind of a pain.

There is a bug report[1], but I don't know how long it will be until there is a proper fix.

There is a bug report[1], but I don't know how long it will be until there is a proper fix.
