Macbook Pro 11,5 Shutdown and Suspend hang

Whenever I attempt to shutdown or suspend my computer, it hangs at the stage where it enters ACPI modes S3 or S5. Reboot works perfectly fine and has never hanged.

My current kernel is a patched 4.0.6 with the patch from this post to enable trackpad and keyboard: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1534634

I am also using vgaswitcheroo to allow for the disabling of the AMD M270X gpu and to use Intel Iris integrated graphics.

My lspci output is

I can post more information, I've spent a few days mostly working on this issue and have yet to find a solution that works.

Re: Macbook Pro 11,5 Shutdown and Suspend hang

Do you get the cgroup message on the screen? All my shut downs do that... And I didn't install a kernel patch.

I'm going to post a separate thread regarding my 11,5 stuff, like WiFi and Bluetooth which seem to be my only real issues.

Re: Macbook Pro 11,5 Shutdown and Suspend hang

I have the cgroups message also. Are you have the suspend/shutdown problem aswell?

Re: Macbook Pro 11,5 Shutdown and Suspend hang

Yep! I haven't tried suspend though. Reboots are 100% OK, although the message does actually show up there as well (looks the same, but goes by pretty fast, so not 100% sure), so I suspect it's the next part of the shutdown process, and not actually the cgroups for where it chokes.

Re: Macbook Pro 11,5 Shutdown and Suspend hang

Try adding these flags to your kernel parameters to debug your kernel on shutdown, on mine the last message is always "acpi_power_off called"

debug ignore_loglevel log_buf_len=10M print_fatal_signals=1 LOGLEVEL=8 sched_debug

In addition, have you gotten any of the graphics switching to work? And what booting setup are you using (grub, refind, gummiboot ...)?

Re: Macbook Pro 11,5 Shutdown and Suspend hang

Sorry, forgot to answer the boot part. I am using grub, but am using the EFI boot method. I was going with rEFInd, but it was causing some difficulties, so I walked through the steps for using the native EFI and it then puts me to grub and boots. If I want to go to OSX, I have to hold down the alt/option key to get the EFI boot menu where I can then pick OSX or the EFI boot, which is Arch.

I haven't tried doing the graphics switching. From everything I've read over the past year and a half, it's a hassle to get it to work properly. Reboots into OSX, change it there, reboot to Linux and it'll work. I've just left myself using the nVidia before and the ATI now. Battery life is 3 hours apparently, but I tend to use my laptop as a workstation, so I'm pretty much always plugged in, so it doesn't change much for me.

The issue seems to affect all users of 11,5 as this post suggest: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7 … 02edb15044

Re: Macbook Pro 11,5 Shutdown and Suspend hang

Hopefully this thread isn't TOO old.  I'm having the same issue, and am wondering if you were ever able to fix this?  Macbook 11,5 (with ATI graphics card). Reboots work 100% of the time, Suspend and Power Off hangs with that cgroup message.  I'd really LOVE to get Suspend working, everything else I can kinda deal with or wait for fixes on.

EDIT:

Followed that Gentoo thread, this guy made a (seemingly well up-to-date) webpage following the issues that we experience with this MacBook:  https://teamsammut.com/blog/2015/09/app … cking.html

Bad news?  Suspend still not working sad
