optirun fails occasionally (Cannot access secondary GPU)

Hi,

optirun occasionally fails with this error message:

optirun -b primus firefox
[237572.168695] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE) systemd-logind: failed to get session: PID 30145 does not belong to any known session

[237572.168732] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

but it usually takes 1 to 5 more tries to get it running.

According to Arch Wiki ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bu … wn_session )
I changed the MODULES var in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf to:

MODULES="i915 bbswitch"

which helped to solve a similar problem I had on majanro, where I got this same message everytime and optirun just wouldn't run.
But here on Arch it's seems to have no effect.

Any ideas what might cause this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Why Linux? Because it doesn't hide anything from you. It puts you so closely in control of your machine that you can feel its heartbeat.

Re: optirun fails occasionally (Cannot access secondary GPU)

Thank you for the links. However, it is kind of confusing. They seem to go against one another in the advices. In the end, I tried to follow the suggestions in the first one and I removed "rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1" from kernel boot parameters (apparently it's not needed since 3.19) and "i915 bbswitch" from MODULES, which goes straight against what is said in Arch-Wiki. Nevertheless it seems to help. I still get these error messages sometimes, but far less often. The issue, however, seems to lay deeper. smile
