Hi,
My son has been playing Mount & Blade: Warband through Steam on Arch (i686, Nvidia). A little while ago (perhaps after an update, he's not very certain) the game would crash after he clicked on "Load Game". The game launches to the main menu, and a new game can be started. It's just the "Load Game" option which causes a crash. I've tried disabling the "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" option, I've verified integrity of game cache, which checks out okay.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rob

There should be a backup file of the savegame somewhere in the depths of the warband directory, maybe you could test if that works.
I don't know what else can be done if the savegame itself turns out to be corrupt.
It's a nice game and I'm glad there is a Linux version but there are bugs in it that make it crash; so far I could always load my last save and then do something else (like visit another town or talk to someone else) to make it avoid whatever made it crash before.
Backup savegame should be this: ~/.mbwarband/Savegames/Native/last_savegame_backup.sav
But if you played another game in between it might just be a save of the other game.
If you have Windows anywhere maybe you could try loading the savegame in Windows version of the game and hope it won't crash over there? So you could copy a new savegame back to Linux from there.
Warband developers seem to be active in the Steam discussions hub, maybe they can help.

Thanks for your reply. It turned out that he had one saved gamed which had a zero length file. Once this was removed, the game was able to proceed beyond the "Load Game" section. ![]()
