[SOLVED] Generate List of Packages that Can be Upgraded

How can I generate a list of packages that can be upgraded?

I want to print this when I start a terminal. I mostly use yaourt as my frontend to package management. I can sort of achieve this by running yaourt as if I was going to interactively upgrade packages but instead pluggin /dev/null to stdin. The output it generates isn't intended for this so it's a bit messy. Is there must be a less clumsy way to do this I just haven't found?
