GPU lockup on AMD Radeon 7870 + FOSS Drivers

Hi Forums,

I've just installed Arch having never used it before.
I have a successfully booting system with X installed successfully.

However when I try to startx using any window manager the display locks up on a black screen with just the mouse cursor (which I can move).
Upon switching to another vty the message

radeon xxxx:xx:xx.x: ring [0 or 3] stalled for more than [incrementing]msec

is displayed on the screen repeatedly forever.

I have experienced this issue before on CRUX Linux similarly with the 4.1 kernel and was unable to solve the issue.

I'll try to for fill requests for further output from my system, but this might be hard due to me not being able to get past a console (So hence can't copy paste anything).

I was wondering if anyone here knows of a fix, or of a bug report I might follow.

I'm hoping to downgrade to kernel 3.19 and install AMD catalyst to give me a working system.

Thanks.

that's a bit soon, and you didn't give much info.

if you want help in troubleshooting, post dmesg and/or journalctl -b , along with xorg.0.log .
(See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li … in_clients for ways to upload logs from console, many use wgetpaste for that).

Also clarify what guide you used to install Arch.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
