[SOLVED] Fonts fm AUR

Dear All,

First of all nice to meet with you. I'm a real newbie and currently working Arch on Virtualbox. After a while, I'll change it to dual system.

Now, my funny question, I'm trying to install https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ttf-openlogos/ this font for the last 7 hours but unable to success. What I did;

1- sudo pacman -Sy base-devel
1- Installing of AUR packages
2- Installing Yaourt
3- yaourt -S tff-openlogos

But alwayse gave an error.

This package is orphaned
( Unsupported package: Potentially dangerous ! )

Hey, Try installing unzip via pacman first.

Re: [SOLVED] Fonts fm AUR

I'm a HUGE fan of Yaourt and Octopi. Why have a GUI if you have to install packages thru CLI? But I also manually build a lot of my packages thru ABS and AUR. I strongly, strongly, STRONGLY recommend that you learn how to manually build your AUR apps before using Yaourt or any other AUR helper program. My recommendation is to manually build the app and use Yaourt to do the updates.

Case in point... your package that you're looking at has been orphaned in AUR. Unless you tell it to, Yaourt will only look in AUR for packages, not AUR4 (the new AUR). I found a not-so-orphaned ttf-openlogos-archupdate in AUR4.

I'm glad you've resolved your problem, but here's a few tips for a more enjoyable Arch experience:

zande wrote:

Don't -Sy anything. You will end up with a broken system.

zande wrote:

2- Installing Yaourt

Don't install yaourt. At least, not until you understand the package building process and how to handle the problems that crop up. It is clear from this thread that you do not.

Don't use quote tags when pasting terminal output, use code tags instead.

When you get an error, read it. This is a pretty obvious error message -- you are missing unzip. This is a mistake in the PKGBUILD, but it is not a difficult problem to overcome, as you have found.

The rest of your post was very well written, so this is only a minor point, but please don't use "txt speak". It only serves to make your messages harder to read, and makes other users less inclined to help you. The odd spelling mistake is fine -- nobody is expecting you to be an English teacher.

Also, avoid cries for help. They are unnecessary. You are posting a topic on a technical support forum, that you need help is a given.

Finally, if your problem has been resolved, please remember to mark your topic as such. It helps other users identify topics that may contain a solution to their own problem.

Sorry for the wordy, and somewhat blunt welcome to the forums. Good luck!

Re: [SOLVED] Fonts fm AUR

Care to adopt and try your hand at fixing this PKGBUILD. It is a good introduction since it has a few minor things wrong with it that are easy to fix. The Arch World gets a lot bigger when you figure out how PKGBUILD works.
