Hi,
I can not boot when the SATA DVD drive is plugged in.
I'm getting the following errors:
... [drm:intel_set_pch_fifo_underrung reporting ...

ata7.00: cmd .... tag 21 pio 512 in res ... Emask 0x56 (ATA bus error)
ata7.00: status: { DRDY }My thoughts:
1. It has to do something with the DVD drive/SATA connection of the DVD drive.
2. It is not the SATA port, the SATA cable or the drive itself because everything works fine when booting Windows 8.1.
3. The first line might have nothing to do with the others and is not preventing the system to boot.
4. It is some kind of "handshake error".
5. Why does this prevent the entire system to boot (and not only the drive being not usable)?
6. Is it possible that this particular drive is not supported by Linux/Arch Linux. I'm using the newest kernel of course (but had not luck with an earlier version as well some time ago)?
7. When plugging the drive when the Arch system is running, the system stops responding.
8. The problem also occurs when starting the Arch Linux ISO (from USB stick) which shouldn't be damaged because it works on my other computers.
9. This problem seems to be non-Arch related as the Ubuntu installer (from DVD) doesn't start either.
I already checked the web for more info:
1. I read that the drive might not respond fast enough.
2. I haven't found a solution yet.
The mainboard: ASRock B75 Pro3 Intel B75
The drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD-RW SATA 1.5Gb/s
Thanks for your help. I will do some more tests tomorrow.

I solved the problem: I just switched the SATA port (from 6 Gb/s port to 3 Gb/s). It is very strange, because the port I previously used to connect the DVD drive now is used to connect the hard drive which can still be mounted.
Maybe it was the combination of non-SATA 3 drive and SATA 3 port. I mark the topic as solved, but if anyone has an explanation WHY this problem occurs, I'm still interested.
Now I'm going to figure out how I can install the driver for the DVB card but that's another topic.
