Hi!
I have an old laptop without cd-rom and usb.
I have formated the 1 GB HDD ext3 and downloaded a Linux .iso boot cd via tomsrtbt and wget.
I have mounted this .iso also via tomsrtbt and loop, so that I can access it like a cd.
Now I am stuck. How to run setup? Can you help?

I just installed Arch using this, using a live cd, and it worked like a charm. I think tomsrtbt would work like a livecd in your case...

thanks!
But there's one more hurdle. I need to get a couple of root / boot disks that allow me to NFS export the Laptop-HDD. tomsrtbt cannot do that. Have you any suggestions?

no, no suggestions, not really, sorry--but I googled and found

Probably won't help, but you might get an idea or two...

i also found another good way to install arch. you could use a damn small linux usb stick and a floppy that loads the kernel. dsl has support for a lot of things, like nfs and wireless. i've installed arch from it a bunch of times. also it has x with fluxbox.

use qemu.
qemu -hda /dev/hda -cdrom myiso.iso -boot d

If your laptop has a floppy drive, you could try a floppy install. The floppy images are here:

Nice suggestion, but he said the laptop has no USB ports!
