Hi!
I'm on kde5 plasma and want to switch from the built-in audio device to an usb device.
I have kmix installed but how can I switch to the usb speakers?

in pavucontrol i need to disable all audio devices except the usb speakers to be able to listen with them. but in kmix i dont have this posiblity?

Re: KDE5 Plasma switch Audio Output

When you left click on kmix, it opens a list of streams playing, each having a slider. With the mixer open, right-click on one of the icons and select move -> your usb audio device.
Even with pavucontrol, you don't have to disable all the audio devices, you just have to select a different device on the streams tab.

Re: KDE5 Plasma switch Audio Output

Nope. This doesn't works for me.
btw,  i thought i need to switch the master channel. What is the master channel for ?

EDIT:
Sometimes i get it working to select the usb device via master channel or move when i killall kmix and pulse and start kmix again, but not everytime...

EDIT2:
Now it works. Please tell me if i understodd correct: With the master channel i select the device so i can change the volume on (and master channel doesnt do anything more?) and with rightclick->move i select on which device it should be played?

Re: KDE5 Plasma switch Audio Output

Yes, exactly. It's not optimal, but I usually just select my internal card as master to control the volume via keyboard media keys. My USB/Bluetooth device has dedicated volume keys, so I control the volume on them via those instead of changing the master channel every time.
I think you could also set your USB speakers as default device in pulseaudio, and theoretically it should set the master channel for you then. If your USB speakers aren't available, it will fallback to your internal device.

Re: KDE5 Plasma switch Audio Output

I have absolutely no idea. It has been working quite fine here.
