Specific logout required to start programs. (KDE) [Solved]

If I reboot my computer or simply shut it down and start it again, I can't start programs from my desktop enviornment(KDE), or through xterm. I have to specifically logout through KDE and login again to regain this functionality. Both rebooting from KDE and from a terminal results in this behaviour.

I'm a new user and I did try searching as well as being clear in my post, but sorry if I have erred.

Edit:
When trying to start a program through xterm, I get the following message:

(process:637): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
No protocol specified
Error: cannot open display: :0

Edit2:

Managed to find the solution through the forums. Hostname wasn't static and/or set to localhost. Now everything seems to function.
