Unable to make thunar show my hard drives when they aren't mounted

I want to see my hard drives even if they aren't mounted in thunar and when I click on one of them to automount it. This is the behavior of thunar in xfce desktop environment. Now i give a try of i3-wm and install thunar + thunar-volman + gvfs but I'm unable to see the hard disks on the left side panel. I'm stuck pretty bad on this, and will appreciate any help...

Works okay here.  The only thing you did not mention that I run is udisks2

Try to right-click below the [PLACES] section: there should be options for [DEVICES], [PLACES] & [NETWORK]. Your HDDs should be listed under [DEVICES]. This works in xfce...
