[Solved] usb 2-1 device descriptor read/64 error -71

Hi,

Since few days, my arch is umounting randomly one of my external sata.
I have no log, the only message is this one: "usb 2-1 device descriptor read/64 error -71" when I try to shutdown my computer.

What can I do to fix this?

Run dmesg the next time this HDD disappears, very likely you will see a lot of similar messages which may tell a bit more about what's exactly going on. Generally, it looks like some hardware problem or kernel bug so reverting recent kernel updates or trying different USB port, cable or SATA bridge may help.

I did as you suggest changing the usb port and you're right, there is not longer an error.
